Codemasters has finally added virtual reality support to DiRT Rally 2.0 – though only for players on the PC with Oculus headsets.

Upon installing the latest “version 1.7” update, players of the rally racing game on Steam will be able to experience the game using their Oculus devices. This, the developers claim, will allow players to “put themselves directly into the driver’s seat and fully experience every inch of each stage“; adding the new POV means ” players will now be able to fully appreciate the track degradation as it cuts-up as cars pass through the stage“.

Oculus users who haven’t bought DiRT Rally 2.0 on Steam will still be able to experience the game in VR, as the title is also available on the Oculus Store. Players who purchase the game through here will have access to exclusive car liveries, as well as time-limited challenges only available to Oculus users.

While Codemasters has likely delighted players on PC who have Oculus headsets, it does have some bad news for users on the PlayStation 4 who shelled out for a PSVR device. Though the studio did release a PSVR version of the original DiRT Rally in 2017, it has confirmed there currently aren’t any plans to do the same for DiRT Rally 2.0.

For the time being, then, PC players will be the only ones who’ll have access to the, in theory, most immersive DiRT Rally 2.0 experience. However, other aspects of the 1.7 update will be available for all players across all platforms; namely, the DirtFish Rally School locale that’s now available as a “Test Drive” area for players to get a feel for their cars.

A professional grade version of Slightly Mad Studios’ Project CARS racing game has been revealed at the 2018 Los Angeles Motor Show.

Set to officially launch sometime in 2019, the Project CARS Pro platform has been designed as a “unique and distinct product with the ability to create unparalleled client experiences”.

As a showcase of Project CARS Pro’s potential, the setup is being demonstrated on the Porsche stand at the LA expo, where visitors will be able to experience the brand new 992-generation Porsche 911 Carrera S around the car maker’s Leipzig test track.

The test track will likely be familiar to Project CARS 2 players, as the circuit was featured in that game’s Porsche Legends Pack DLC earlier this year.

Claimed to make the playable Project CARS Pro build even more engrossing is the StarVR headset integration. According to Slightly Mad Studios, this helps the “Porsche 911 VR-Racing Experience” to offer “truly unique, intense, and unrivalled levels of immersion”.

Slightly Mad Studios’ chief commercial officer Stephen Viljoen said: “We’re developing the professional version of Project CARS for the automotive world to deliver a unique and distinct product with the ability to create unparalleled client experiences, and working with Porsche on this project, utilising our professional simulation product before its official debut in 2019, is very exciting!”

Ahead of the final race of the 2018 Formula One World Championship, HTC has announced a McLaren-themed version of its Vive Pro virtual reality headset.

Simply named the “HTC Vive Pro McLaren Edition”, the package a pair of 2018-spec controllers and a Vive Pro headset – with the latter sporting orange accents reminiscent of the shade of ‘Papaya Orange’ used on McLaren’s Formula One cars.

In addition to the hardware, the HTC Vive Pro Mclaren Edition is bundled with appropriately McLaren-themed software. As well as the McLaren VR Garage Experience app, which lets users experience what being a part of McLaren’s pit crew is like, buyers will also be able to race some of McLaren’s most notable Formula One cars in the rFactor 2 McLaren Edition simulator.

Rounding off the package is a six-month subscription to the ‘Viveport’ service, which grants users access to 50 HTC Vive games and apps of their choice every month.

HTC didn’t reveal how many versions of the Vive Pro McLaren Edition it will sell, though the package’s £1,450 asking price likely means it won’t sell out anytime soon.

Codemasters has confirmed that their upcoming rally sim DiRT Rally 2.0 will not support VR at launch.

Rather than calling it a day on VR though, Chief Game Designer Ross Gowing has stated that they are taking people’s comments on board and should there be “enormous demand” it could be something they include in a future update.

Fans have actually set up a petition to rally support for VR, you can sign it here.

DiRT Rally 2.0 was officially revealed last week via a trailer, we’ve since learned the title will launch with eight rallycross tracks, the pre-order goodies and Deluxe Edition contents have been revealed, and we’ve admired the first batch of screenshots. We spoke to Chief Games Designer Ross Gowing before having an interview with real-world rally driver and DiRT Rally 2.0 consultant Jon Armstrong.

DiRT Rally 2.0 is scheduled for release on February 26, 2019, across the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC platforms. We’ll have lots more on DiRT Rally 2.0 shortly.

Battlezone was originally developed by Atari as a 1980 arcade game, but you’re probably more familiar with the PlayStation 4 remake released in 2016 as a launch title for PSVR, depending on your age. Developer  Rebellion has announced the tank combat game will soon be expanding its audience reach with the upcoming release of Battlezone Gold Edition on all major platforms, which will be blasting onto PS4, Xbox One and PC in May. A Nintendo Switch version will be released at a later date in the summer.

The good news is that you’ll no longer need to own a VR headset to play Battlezone with the Gold Edition. And don’t worry if you already own the original game, because existing owners will be able to upgrade to the Gold Edition free of charge.

Battlezone Gold Edition includes the main game, as well as all additional content released so far. This means you’ll get access to all the extra tank skins, bobbleheads and horns, as well as the Classic Mode based on the original Battlezone 80s arcade cabinet.  Battlezone Gold Edition will be available on May 1st on PS4, Xbox One and PC for £29.99.

We recently got stuck into the free PSVR update for WipEout Omega Collection and were left very surprised, to say the least.

Visually, WipEout Omega Collection in PSVR looks stunning thanks to its vibrant colours, impressive particle effects, and incredible levels of detail in the environments which seem to have lost very little in the translation to the virtual reality medium.

Add to that the fact that the ships are easily controllable thanks to the incredibly intuitive and instinctive handling which is delightfully responsive, and some truly impressive sound effects which let you know exactly where your rivals are, and you have perhaps the greatest racer on the PlayStation VR.

Let us know if you've been enjoying the title in the comments, for now, why not check out our very first reactions to the title in the first look video below.

Version 1.15 of Gran Turismo Sport launched today and brought with it a host of new content, chief of which are thirteen new cars and the famous Japanese track of Tsukuba.

We jumped on the new update and took to the Japanese track in a couple of Japanese cars, namely the Nissan Skyline GT-R R33, and the Mazda RX-7 GT-X. We also test the new time trial mode added to the VR Tour mode.

You can view our thoughts on the content we tested in the video below (and yes, I've since learned that the RX-7 beeping noise is a safety feature!)

We're are happy to report that WipEout Omega Collection's long-awaited free PSVR update has now gone live.

It's just a case of updating the title and then strapping on your headset for some fast-paced VR racing. You can select any game mode, and play the full game in virtual reality from start to finish.

The new update actually adds three new VR exclusive ships for HD, Fury, and 2048 classes. Of course, as this is VR we are talking about, you can also enjoy the benefits full 3D audio which should add massively to the immersion and enjoyment of the anti-gravity racer. You'll also find a new remix of “Shake It” by competition winner Vieille Griffe.

Sony has also revealed that there will be a demo for WipEout Omega Collection coming “soon”. Let us know if you've been playing WipEout Omega Collection in PSVR and what you make of it so far.
